The game itself is a dark horror RPG that, for all its occasional infuriating design decisions such as confusing maps and occasionally a little too much of a breezy pace excels due to its atmosphere. Francis Coulombe has absolutely captured the atmosphere with creepy and unsettling pixel art consisting of grotesque creatures imagine tooth and limb amalgamations or dudes with eyelashes bursting out of their chests.

The creature designs are just flat-out creepy, heightening the sense of tension during the game. And on top of that Look Outside is a brief but great RPG with amusing mechanics and the small touches that bring it all together. The only thing you should avoid actually doing is overthinking about the flesh monster on your door step it ill drive you crazy.

The turn-based action is hardcore with more than 150 painstakingly crafted creatures, and space between you and your foes actually comes into play in combat. You Will also improvise weapons and scavenge equipment to keep you alive amidst the terror of the building.

Along the way you encounter an offbeat and frequently psychopathic cast of characters, several of whom can be recruited and harbored in your apartment while you solve the mystery. Look Outside provides 3-6 hours of gameplay, with numerous boss battles, recruitable companions, and visitors to bring back home. With multiple conclusions and individual experiences per player its a short, experimental title that is unremittingly strange in the best possible manner.
