Grief like a Stray Dog is a short interactive experience that tells the story of a young postwoman in a small close knit rural town during the peak of WWII. Nadia just thirteen years old, spends her days delivering letters, papers, and, tragically, death notifications to families who have lost loved ones in the war.

The character of Nadia is inspired by the authors grandmother drawing from the stories of her childhood in a village near Rzhev, one of the harshest battlefields on the Eastern Front. Much of the game’s story including character arcs and plot points comes from the war stories shared by older relatives and villagers. A lot of the letters in the game are based on real ones.

The visual style of the game is influenced by children’s drawings, neo-expressionism Russian lubok art, and Soviet book illustrations. Grief like a Stray Dog is a mix of documentary and Russian folklore offering a  moving reflection on war community and human destiny.

 In This game features a visual novel format with adventure game elements a rich narrative inspired by memories and folk tales and 2D graphics created by the author. The soundtrack is unsettling and unique and the dialogues are deep and authentic offering an immersive experience.
